#74 on National Radio Charts (CMJ)! - August 9, 2007

Just a brief note:

Born Again Floozies are tearing up the charts. This week the BAF are
#74 on national airplay charts (CMJ). Up 31 slots from last week! 119
slots in two weeks!

On a scale of good to bad, this is good.

Special thanks to the picketers and protesters of our CD release
party! And thanks to everyone else that came out. Radio Radio was
splitting at the seams. They sold out of all my favorite beers.

Next time, pick up a protest sign and protest anything you like--
it's really cheap therapy...

PASTE MAGAZINE
The Floozies will be featured in PASTE magazine again this August on
their CD sampler. They will feature a song off our brand new, not yet
released CD entitled 7 Deadly Sinners.

Exposé magazine in California recently wrote a lovely surrealistic
and raving review of the Floozies first CD Novelties, Addenda and
Ephemera. This is how they describe their approach to music reviews:
Our philosophical approach to music is critical...Exposé is not a
fanzine; both our readers and the artists we cover are better served
by an honest assessment of the progressive underground."

7 Deadly Sinners to be Released July 24th, 2007 - May 30, 2007

Novelties, Addenda and Ephenera, the Floozies first release, was recorded at the same time as 7 Deadly Sinners. The Floozies recorded 16 songs with the infamous Steve Albini at his studios in Chicago. Originally the two CDs were to be released as a double CD but logisitically, that was too difficult.

The first EP were songs that didn't quite fit in with the rest. Recording 7 Deadly Sinners was a life-changing experience for all the Floozies. 7 Deadly Sinners was mastered by Nick Webb at Abbey Road studios in London because everyone involved felt that these recordings deserved the best treatment possible. It will be released on CD and 180 gram audiophile grade vinyl.

IMC Music Video - May 21, 2007

The Born Again Floozies video for "I Used to Play the Euphonium" is being played five times a day for the next 2 weeks. If you're familiar with IMC, check it out! Since we don't have TV or cable, we can't give you more instruction than that.

Review from the Netherland's Hanx Magazine! - December 16, 2006

This is translated by a free website, so it is a poor (and hilarious) translation. Please email us if you can decipher more!

(3.5 out of 4 stars)
The Born Again Floozies are a rariteitenkabinet. They are also the cuddling animals of was appropriate Magazine. Novelties, Addenda And Ephemera is, extremely nicely looked after, mini cd. Five numbers with the tuba in the head role. Not for the joke, no, for the echtie. Floozy Revival/Live It Up Now sound as James Brown played by the fanfare. Small Penis Compensation Vehicle are talking blues concerning men with a small piddle and large car. Hilarisch it becomes as the number, towards end, to sing along beginning. Gimme Back My Mullet act concerning a failed haircut. As if Todd Snider amorous have become on dansmarietje. At I Used To Play The Euphonium the monkey comes from the sleeve. They thought that and the cool were. That is not it. However, very eigenzinnig. The future will show if this only novelty-act are or that they are of large value for the music history. I hope the last because this familiarisation is pleasant, and more. (Patrick Donders)

Actual text:

The Born Again Floozies - Novelties, Addenda And Ephemera
The Born Again Floozies is een rariteitenkabinet. Ze zijn ook het knuffelbeest van Paste Magazine. Novelties, Addenda And Ephemera is een, uitermate mooi verzorgde, mini cd. Vijf nummers met de tuba in de hoofdrol. Niet voor de grap, nee, om het echtie. Floozy Revival/Live It Up Now klinkt als James Brown gespeeld door de fanfare. Small Penis Compensation Vehicle is een talking blues over mannen met een kleine piemel en een grote auto. Hilarisch wordt het als het nummer, naar het einde toe, tot meezingen aanzet. Gimme Back My Mullet handelt over een mislukt kapsel. Alsof Todd Snider verliefd is geworden op een dansmarietje. Bij I Used To Play The Euphonium komt de aap uit de mouw. (Patrick Donders)

Irony served on tap
Local music mainstay has a hit with his eclectic group.
By Jessica Halverson

With a line-up of tap shoes, tuba and guitar, Born Again Floozies front man Joey Welch, 39, professes a love of "earthy" percussion. The band recently released the EP "Novelties, Addenda and Ephemera," recorded with respected musician and recording engineer Steve Albini. So far, they've received positive feedback and a spot on the December Paste magazine sampler CD.

Here Welch, with a musical history that includes Johnny Socko and Mr. Sparkle, talks about his obsession with music and his unique style of playing guitar mostly on the fretboard.

When did you start playing music?

I've been obsessed with music ever since I can remember. I have a picture of me, (I was) two years old playing my mom's ukulele. Eventually she started hiding it, but I would find it. When I got a little bit older my brother got an electric guitar and he would try to hide that from me. I played it more than he did.

When you first started the Floozies in 2004, did you know the band would be as successful as it is?

I never do. It always seems to me that we're just doing what we do and I don't have any plans for it. I learned a long time ago that it's much better to let a path unfold as it will than to force something. Even in bands that have been successful that I've had, the minute you try to cram it into something it's not, you can immediately see it start falling apart. The best thing to do is to get people together and there's some sort of energy between you, and then you just play to those strengths.

You seem to have a good sense of having fun with the music. What do you find appealing about that?

I employ humor a lot and a lot of irony. And usually the best humor is the awful truths about human nature and putting them in a light that is like, Wow, look at this contradiction, it's really horrific. And our reaction is to laugh at it. . . . That deeper thing is what I usually try to get into the music. I sincerely feel that if there's not something that's really worthwhile saying, there's no point in doing it or saying it.

How did you develop your style of playing guitar?

It kind of started with raising kids. The only time that I would have to play would be while I was tending the kids. So I would have my guitar, playing guitar with one hand and getting dinner together or helping the kids with the other. So it kind of developed slowly over the past maybe 10 years or maybe even 15 years of playing. But then when my older kids, when they got a little bit older and they could start taking care of themselves I had this free hand, so I started doing stuff with the other hand. I never really even considered myself a guitar player; I always considered myself a drummer but I just happened to be holding a guitar.

UK Magazine Reviews Floozies - November 30, 2006

"Marvellous stuff." - David Cowling, Americana UK

Check out the review where Joey is compared to the Minutemen's D.
Boon* www.americana-uk.com (front page, under latest CD reviews)

or read it here:

The Born Again Floozies "Novelties, Addenda and Ephemera" (Triple R
Records 2006)

Noteworthy, addictive and not ephemeral

Put together two tap dancers, a tuba player, a guitarist and a bunch
of surreal song titles with Steve Albini and you get an unusually
satisfying record. Put aside the humour, and start with the
instrumental 'Heathen Gypsy Trouncer' - the tuba wanders around a
minor scale, guitar sounds like the titular wanderer, drums stomp
their feet a slow motion whirl of colour and emotion, bass drum
sounds like a primitive imperative. 'I Used to Play the Euphonium'
whistles, amphetamine drum roll, electric guitar, insistent ticking
of the taps, the spirit of the Minutemen awakened by the guitar
playing - even D Boon didn't bring in the tuba. Imagine that they had
and a choir clapping, whooping, indeed this is not a test. Marvellous
stuff.

God Bless This Garden...Jesus Mow My Lawn - October 19, 2006

God told me Jesus uses a Lawn Boy, which of course is a 2-Cycle engine that requires a 50:1 gasoline to oil mixture. Jesus can mix this shit up with his eyes closed. He really does a great job.

In fact last week the lawn-mowing patterns he left looked like Bjork naked. I couldn't tell up close but when I looked at the lawn from the attic-- it sure as hell was Bjork. And she was butt-naked.

I think Jesus digs her...

Floozies Incite EVIL at Recent Performance! - October 6, 2006

Floozies Incite EVIL at Recent Performance

We had INCREDIBLE turn out for our recent shows. Thank you to all. At one of the shows, the floozies faced serious accusations of inciting crowds to acts of EVIL!

Yes folks, your very own Born Again Floozies were damn near tarred and feathered. The venue owner, panicked at the size of the crowd and the venue's inability to control the flow of people, spat this accusation through gritted teeth: I BLAME YOUR PERFORMANCE FOR INCITING DISORDER AND RAMPANT DISHONESTY!

I didn't actually see the disorder, or dishonesty. Libby suggested that maybe it was happening behind the two little girls that were dancing along with Amy and Libby, or perhaps behind all the people watching and listening intently for 90 minutes, applauding at every break, smiling all the while. Or maybe he didn't like the way people approached us in a disorderly way to ask us to sign their CDs...

The Floozies really are pure EVIL. You can see it in Amy and Libby's eyes while "tap dancing" (so they call it) -- I suggest they are beating out the DEVIL's TATTOO! It's some kind of voodoo Morse Code that lulls people into thinking they're safe. That's when they've got them. They get LUCIFIED. FLOOZY-IZED. Coerced into a den of iniquity, full of ordinance violators with poor posture.

No, this venue owner has it right. The Born Again Floozies are EVIL! BURN THOSE FLOOZIES! They are in league with The Dark Lord to cause people to misbehave and forget their manners.

DID YOU KNOW that if you play "Live It Up Now" backwards, it says "kittens are cute"? That's so INSIDIOUS!

LISTEN TO THE FLOOZES OR THE DEVIL WILL GET YOU!

Rock and Reel - September 20, 2006

Atlanta, GA
The Floozies played PASTE magazine's Rock and Reel Festival last weekend. It was our first road trip with baby Faolain, and he loved it--especially the airport.

We got to meet the president of the international magazine, along with a lot of other great folks who love music. The vibe was so laid back and the focus was music-- not image, not hype, just music. t was very refreshing!

We sold more CDs than any other band on the bill and got lots of compliments on the artwork--thank you again Kipp Normand and Amy McAdams (they also said they LOVED the press kit-- so thank you Jennifer Hughes!)

Sincerely,

The Floozies
